Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
Posted on 04:40 by breat
Madagascar is another movie series that I grew up with. As a matter of fact, I remember seeing the second one on my 11th birthday. As time goes on, I must admit that I have kind of forgotten about the series and can't remember half of what was in them now. I went into this third installment with an open mind and I left seeing a dull and dry film that doesn't offer much but it is somewhat decent and does offer a nice closure to the series.
The film is about the same group of animals from the New York Zoo who are still trying to get back to New York after being stuck in Africa for a long period of time. This time around, they try to get back to New York through Europe and with a circus. On the way, they meet a somewhat crazy French lady named Captain Chantal Dubois and run into some difficulty because they don't know anything about being in a circus.
I think the circus does offer an interesting angle to this film. It does include some new characters and it can be pretty entertaining watching the animals struggle in the circus and here the characters really show some emotions and can be quite lovable and sweet. That said, there are flaws here. King Juilian has a dumb love story with a bear, the animals seems to run the cirus and the whole set-up for entering the cicrus and having to tell a lie to get in and then getting in trouble for it, is not too original and nothing new. The circus aspect probably could have been done better but it has enough highlights to make it worthwhile.
One thing I forget with the other films is who were the villains. In this one, I was not a fan of the villain, Ms. Dubois. She is strange and not in a good way. She is not likable as she is just too weird and a lot things about her are unexplained. Overall, this is a poor character as she is just too strange and hard to figure out.
One thing that I do remember about the first two films are the good lead characters including the good voice characters. In this one, it is the same. All the characters are likable, funny and lovable and they are all voiced pretty well. The animation is also pretty solid.
The main thing I liked about the film is the ending. It is something that you can't see coming and it offers good closure to the film and also the series. This ending shows that the characters have grown up through the sequels and that they have some good feelings that we have never seen before in these films.
This film is not great and does have many flaws. It is also not the most interesting film but it does have the same good cast, a good new plot and has a really nice ending. Even though the film is just okay and it is not terrible, it is still time for this series to end and I do think this is a good film to end it. The film ends the series with a movie that's shows the characters have grown up and that they have found where they want to be and I think that is an appropriate ending.
