Going into Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star, I thought it sounded kind of dumb and that it would probably be a very long hours two hours of my life. It did sound like an interesting idea nevertheless and something that I might find entertaining. After watching it, I can’t even describe how bad it was. It is a mess from start to finish with some terrible characters and is no doubt one of the worst comedies I have ever seen and a pointless film.
The film is about a guy named Bucky Larson (Nick Swardon) who is a small town kid who works at the local grocery store and is one of the those guys who is not respected by most people and he really has no friends. One day, he learns that his parents were once former adult film stars. He soon figures that he wants to pursue a career in this field and heads to Los Angeles to find some work. Once he makes it to California, he does find fame and fun but he also finds trouble and hardship.
The most disappointing thing about this film is how many good actors are here but how bad their characters are. Christina Ricci, Nick Swardson, Dan Johnson and Stephen Doriff all make appearances and except for the one played by Christina Ricci, every one of the characters is dumb and an unrealistic mess of a character. They also crack many jokes but the only ones I laughed at were the ones that were so bad they were funny. Really, the only highlight is Christina Ricci's character. It is no doubt an unrealistic character for numerous reasons but she is lovable and respectable and sheds a little light on this film.
Along with the tiresome jokes, some scenes are quite unrealistic. The film is terrible all the way around and the adult film scenes are also very bad. Every one of these scenes is downright awful. They are also unfunny and unrealistic and I think you could say that that director Tom Brady has a along way to go in his film making career.
The last problem I have with this movie is Bucky. He is just not a very believable or convincing character. He hangs out in bushes, has no idea about life and it’s very hard to figure where this character is coming from. Bucky is one of the worst characters I have ever seen and he really defines how bad this movie really. Along with all these problems, nothing in this movie is funny and it does rely on a lot of cheap humor.
I did not like this movie at all and found it to be one of the worst movies of 2011.
